Join us for World Skydiving Day 2026 at Dropzone Denmark

We have a big and exciting week ahead of us at Dropzone Denmark in Herning.

The weather forecast looks generally very promising, so we have opened as many extra slots in the calendar as possible. We have called in extra staff and prepared for more days of tandem skydives, student jumps and general jump activities.

Skydiving is a very weather-dependent activity. When we have a period with good jumping conditions, it is therefore about making the most of the opportunity – and right now it seems we are going to have some really good days at the dropzone.

At the same time, World Skydiving Day 2026 is being held on Saturday, 11 July, where skydivers around the world try to break the record for the most skydives completed in one day.

• Extra slots are open from today, Thursday 9 July to Wednesday, 15 July 2026

• New solo students can start with the theory course on Friday, 10 July
• From 15–19 July, we will hold a major international competition in Canopy Piloting

If you have long considered trying a tandem skydive, the coming days are a really good opportunity.

We have opened extra slots for tandem skydives from Thursday 9th July to Wednesday 15th July inclusive. You can therefore book your first skydive – or come back if you have already tried it once or several times and fancy another leap into free fall.

A tandem skydive requires no previous experience. You will jump with a professional tandem instructor who is responsible for the whole jump from briefing and flight to free fall, canopy flight, and landing.

You just need to show up ready for a great experience.

On Saturday the 11th of July, the third official World Skydiving Day will be held.

World Skydiving Day brings together drop zones, tandem jumpers, students, and experienced skydivers from all over the world. The aim is to celebrate the sport and attempt to break the record for the most skydives completed in a single day.

The first World Skydiving Day was held in 2024. A total of 30,351 skydives were recorded across the world.

In 2025, 26,718 jumps were officially recorded. Therefore, the record from 2024 still stands – and in 2026 we will attempt to beat it.

This time, the weather in Herning looks much more promising than it has for the last two years on this day, and we hope that many will come and help Dropzone Denmark and the rest of the international skydiving community reach a new record number!

Will my tandem skydive count?

Yes.

You do not need to be a qualified skydiver to participate in World Skydiving Day.

The following jumps can count:

• Tandem skydives
• AFF- IAD- and student jumps
• Coach jumps
• Solo skydives
• Regular sport jumps
• Formation, freefly, angle, wingsuit and other disciplines

The crucial point is that the jump takes place on the 11th of July 2026 and is recorded correctly, and we will of course assist with that.

This means that your very first tandem jump can be part of an international record attempt!

The good weather conditions are not only relevant for tandem skydivers.

If you are already in the process of a solo skydiving course but are missing one or more student jumps, the coming days are a great opportunity to move forward in your training.

Continuity is important during parachute training. The shorter the time between student jumps, the easier it is usually to maintain procedures, body position, canopy control, and the knowledge you have gained during theory and previous jumps.

We also have available spots in the theory course on Friday, 10th July.

In our solo skydiving course, you learn to jump with a parachute by yourself. You start with thorough theory and practical exercises on the ground before you complete your first student jump.

Unlike a tandem jump, as an AFF student, you are active throughout the entire jump. You will learn about:

• Equipment and safety
• Body position in free fall
• Altitude control
• Deployment of the parachute
• Canopy flying and landing patterns
• Emergency procedures
• Communication with the instructors

If you want to take the first step towards becoming an independent skydiver, you can start with theory on Friday and continue with student jumps when the weather and your progression allow it.

The choice of altitude is fundamentally about how much free fall, intensity and adventure you want in your experience. But it's also about what budget you have to work with. Here is the short version:

Select 2 km if you want a calm experience focusing on the view and skydiving, where the pace quickly becomes relaxed and panoramic.

Select 4.5 km if you want the classic skydiving experience with up to one minute of free fall – the experience that most people associate with skydiving.

Select 6 km if you want longer free fall and a more extreme experience, where the ascent with oxygen in the plane becomes part of the adventure.

Select 7.6 km if you want to try Europe’s highest tandem jump and get the most advanced and spectacular experience offered throughout Europe.

Our recommendation

If it's your first time trying skydiving – and possibly also your only time – we always recommend a tandem skydive from 4.5 km.

Canopy Piloting is a high-speed discipline within the sport of skydiving.

The athletes build up speed under the parachute and make a controlled turn before flying over the competition area close to the ground, or swoop pond, as we call it.

Depending on the discipline, they compete in among other things:

• Speed: Who completes the course the fastest?
• Distance: Who flies the furthest through and after the course?
• Accuracy: Who combines speed and control with the most precise landing?
• Freestyle: Technical and visually impressive maneuvers close to the water

It is a very audience-friendly discipline because the competition takes place close to the ground, allowing spectators to follow the athletes throughout their passage of the course.

You do not need to know anything about skydiving to come and watch the competition.

Bring family or friends, find a spot close to the competition area, and experience some of the Nordics’ (and the world’s) most skilled canopy pilots performing fast and technically demanding flights over our swoop pond.

There are good opportunities to follow the competition from our outdoor areas and terrace.

The café is open

Nomad Bar & Café is open during the competition.

Here you can buy among other things:

• Hot coffee
• Cold beers and soft drinks
• Burgers
• Nachos
• Snacks and other beverages

You can take your food out to the terrace and enjoy it while following the competition and the atmosphere at the drop zone.

It is also allowed to bring your own picnic blanket and food if you prefer to make a full outing of the day.
