Solo skydiving course

from 2,995 DKK.

Denmark's leading solo skydiving course

At Dropzone Denmark, we have developed a unique solo skydiving course based on experience and statistics from around the world. It is designed to give you all the knowledge and skills you need to jump safely out of a plane.

Therefore, you do not need to have made a tandem skydive first. Everything will be covered theoretically and practiced physically so that you are completely aware of what is to take place. Both when everything goes as it should and also if something unexpected happens.

Our skydive training is built around the AFF principle (Accelerated Freefall).

  • First jump from 4.5 km (15.000ft full height)
  • Pull your own parachute
  • Experience freefall from the start

This means that you will experience a full skydive from your first solo skydive, get more time in the air, and learn faster than if you take a static line course.

Accelerated Freefall (AFF) skydiving course

Accelerated Freefall – commonly referred to as AFF in the skydiving community – is the part of a skydiving course that provides you with the skills and experience necessary to jump solo. The training is based on the most modern and proven teaching methods and is designed to quickly and effectively build both competence and confidence in freefall.

The course consists of ground school (theory) and 8 AFF levels (skydives).

Ground school (theory)

In one evening, you will learn the essential safety procedures, proper handling of equipment, parachute control, and safe landing techniques so that you are optimally prepared for your first jump.

Everything is covered theoretically and practiced physically, so you are completely aware of what will happen. Both when everything goes as it should and also if something unexpected occurs.

8 AFF levels (skydives)

You complete at least eight structured jumps as part of the Accelerated Freefall program, all under close supervision of your instructors. Each jump includes specific exercises and maneuvers that must be mastered before you can progress to the next level.

Outcome

Once you have successfully completed all your AFF levels, you are ready for your first solo skydive without an instructor. You are now well on your way to achieving your international USPA skydiving certificate!

AFF skydiving course
from 2,995kr.

How does a solo skydive work?

Day 1: You arrive ready for 4-5 hours of theoretical instruction, where you learn all about the parachute and the scenarios you may encounter.

Here, you will also receive the practical training you need, where you will, for example, practice all the movements you will use during your skydive.

Day 2: On the day of your jump, you start with 1 hour of practical training, where you practice jumping out of the plane and pulling the parachute yourself. Here there is ofcourse also room for some last questions before your jump.

Now it’s go time! You’ll jump from 4.5 KM altitude together with two instructors. During freefall, the instructors will hold on to you to make sure everything goes as it should. You will deploy the parachute yourself—at that moment, your instructors fly away, and you are on your own under the canopy.

During the canopy flight, you’ll still never be alone. An instructor will guide you all the way down, speaking to you through a headset in your helmet, so you feel supported while flying your parachute on your own. After touching down, you’ll sit together with your instructors for a debrief, reflect on the experience, and proudly log the jump in your brand-new logbook – marking another step toward becoming an independent skydiver.

Become a skydiver in a week

Skydiver in a week at Dropzone Denmark is a cohesive, intensive AFF course, where we combine teaching, instructors, flights, and time in one week. The goal is to give you the best possible start to your skydiving career – without unnecessary breaks and with maximum progression.

The course consists of a total group of up to 12 students, who are together the whole week. When the jumps begin, you will be divided into smaller groups of 2–4 students, where each group has its own instructor team, and you will follow each other throughout the course.

By participating in our "skydiver in a week" you will receive:

  • 1 day of thorough teaching with theory and physical exercises
  • 5 consecutive jump days
  • 2–3 jumps per day
  • Feedback and video debrief in real time

Result

After a whole week of intensive learning and skydives, you should at a minimum complete the AFF part of your skydiving licence. But once it is over, your jumps require less supervision and you can get through your remaining jumps more quickly.

Frequently asked questions regarding a solo skydiving course

Find all the practical information in the various tabs below. If you have any further questions, please feel free to write to us at info@dropzonedenmark.dk or call +45 2240 1117.

What is the price of a solo skydiving course?

You can choose to jump solo just once, or continue your skydiving journey and become a certified skydiver with a USPA license. The cost of your skydiving course therefore depends greatly on your needs and desired outcomes.

With our package solutions, a skydiving course can cost from 2,995 to 23,495 DKK.

Please note that any re-jumps if an AFF level is not passed on the first attempt, or a packing course - where you learn to pack your own parachute, are not included in our package solutions.

What does a solo skydive require?

Whether you only want one solo skydive, or if you want to be a certified skydiver, you will start on the same solo course in skydiving.

It is a common misconception that you must have done a tandem skydive before you can skydive solo. This is not the case. While it is undeniably good preparation, you can easily take your first skydive as a solo jump. You don’t even need to have flown in an airplane before.

All it requires is desire, will, and courage!

OK, it also requires that you are at least 16 years old and have no health issues that could prevent your skydive. But that's all!

Our solo skydiving course is structured in such a way that you learn everything you need to make a safe skydive alone.

If you then wish to continue your education and possibly become a certified skydiver, you are already well on your way. But as mentioned, this is not a requirement; you can just skydive once with our solo skydiving course.

If you are in doubt about whether you can make a solo jump, you are always welcome to contact us via email: info@dropzonedenmark.dk or phone: +45 2240 1117.

Do you need to do a tandem skydive before you can do a solo skydive?

The short answer is: no.

It is a common misconception that you must have tried a tandem skydive before you can skydive solo. This is not the case. It is undeniably good preparation, but you can easily take your first skydive as a solo jump. You don’t even need to have flown in an airplane before. All it requires is desire, will, and courage!

Our solo parachute course is structured in such a way that you learn everything you need to perform a safe skydive on your own.

If you wish to continue with the training and possibly become a certified skydiver, you are already well on your way. But as mentioned, it is not a requirement; you can easily just jump once with our solo course.

I have done a Static Line or IAD skydiving jump, how do I start on the AFF course?

Have you already tried a Static Line or IAD skydive? And would you perhaps like to continue your skydiving training with an AFF skydiving course – and really experience the freedom of freefall?

With an AFF conversion course at Dropzone Denmark, you can jump from 4.5 km, feel the adrenaline rush for a longer time, and experience what it means to fly through the air on your own.

At Dropzone Denmark, we help you build on your skydiving education. Our IAD to AFF conversion course starts with 1.5 hours of theory, where you learn everything you need before taking your first AFF Level 1 jump from 4.5 km. The price for the course including the first AFF Level 1 jump is 2,195 DKK.

To get started, you book a time for the AFF conversion course.

How do I continue my skyvide training after a longer break?

Depending on how many jumps you have and how long it has been since you last jumped, there may be different criteria you need to complete before you can continue at your usual level. This can often be done in just one or two jumps, but after your first refresher jump, more jumps may be necessary.

The table below serves as guidelines, so you can keep track of what needs to happen. The instructor will always be able to change details or terms depending on the level. Just as you are also very welcome to request additional guidance, training, or jumps.

The refresher can consist of either a theoretical part or jumps with a coach or instructor. Often both.

How old do I have to be to do a solo skydive?

To participate in a solo skydive, you must be at least 16 years old, there is no maximum age.

If you are under 18, you must bring a signature from a parent or guardian. The signature can either be completed upon arrival at reception, or you can print our signature form in advance and bring it with you.

You can find a printable PDF here: signature form.

What is the weight limit and the physical requirements for a solo skydiving course?

To participate in a solo skydiving course, there are certain weight and health requirements that must be met for safety reasons.

The maximum weight limit for solo skydives is 110 kg, including clothing and shoes. Additionally, it is important that you have basic physical mobility. You must be able to bend your back in free fall and move your arms freely over your head, as this is part of the correct body position during the jump.

You must be in generally good physical and mental health. If you have previously had a shoulder injury, back problems, or are unsure whether you are physically or mentally fit to skydive alone, it is required that you contact us before attending the course. Together we can assess whether a solo skydiving course is right for you.

A skydive is both a physical and mental challenge, and for many, it is an intense experience. Therefore, we recommend that you arrive well-rested, refreshed, and comfortable for the course, so you can have the best and safest experience possible.

How much time should I allocate for my first solo skydive?

We recommend that you set aside the whole weekend for your first solo skydiving course. The theory course itself usually takes around 5 hours including breaks. During the course, there is an opportunity to purchase dinner in our café at reasonable prices.

The jump typically takes place, weather permitting, the day after the theory course. You should arrive at 08:00 where you will receive the last theory session, which takes about an hour. When it’s time for your jump, you will be suited up and taken up in the aircraft with your instructors at the earliest opportunity.

Please be aware that there must be extraordinarily good weather conditions to jump safely as a student. So you should always expect waiting time as an AFF student.

If you do not manage to make the jump in the first weekend after the theory course, you are welcome to come on any day we are open to perform your jump. No registration is required, but it is a good idea to keep up with our Facebook group, where we regularly update about the weather conditions for jumping.

Here you can even leave a comment on these posts about your intention to come on the specified day and make an AFF level 1 skydive. This way, we can inform you further about timings and other details. It is a good rule to arrive when we open, as this gives you the best chance of getting a jump that day.

Always set aside the whole day for a student skydive.

How long does it take to become a certified skydiver with a USPA A license?

The time it takes to become a certified skydiver and obtain a USPA A-license depends on several factors – including the weather, your physical fitness, mental readiness, and how much time you can dedicate.

In theory, a skydiving license can be obtained relatively quickly.

The fastest process we have experienced took only 2 weeks. The student was present at the drop zone every day, from the first lift to the last, and took every opportunity to jump. Waiting time due to weather was spent on theory, exam preparation, and skills training. The student was both in good physical shape and mentally ready for an intensive course.

However, for most, it takes longer. It is completely normal for it to take anywhere from a few weeks to a whole or even two seasons, depending on:

  • How often you can come and jump
  • Weather conditions in the season
  • How quickly you complete the AFF course
  • Your individual learning pace

Fastest possible route to a skydiving license: “Skydiver in a week”

If your goal is to get through the process as quickly as possible, our “Skydiver in a week” course is the ideal choice.

We are open for a whole week, where:

  • We start with ground school the evening before
  • Instructors, plane space, and resources are allocated for students all week
  • You can complete the AFF part (weather permitting)
  • You can take the package course
  • Students are prioritized for extra jumps to get as close to the A license as possible

This course is rigorous and intensive, and you are expected to be ready to work hard from morning till evening – every day.

When should I arrive at the centre for my solo skydiving course?

You must arrive at the time specified on your booking. For example, if you have a theory course booked for Friday at 17:00, we expect you to show up precisely at 17:00.

On the day of the jump itself, you should plan to arrive at 08:00 on weekends and at 15:00 on weekdays. This will be agreed upon between you and your instructor in the groundwork (theory).

Can my solo skydive be filmed?

As a starting point, your instructors will record your skydive. The purpose of the video is primarily to provide a better evaluation of your jump, and it is therefore not produced as a professional video product. You are of course welcome to receive the video afterwards.

If you want a professionally edited video + photos from an external cameraman, we can usually offer this.

The price is 995 DKK. and includes the entire experience: pre- and post-briefing, preparation on the ground, atmosphere in the plane, the jump itself, and the landing. An external cameraflyer provides a much better overall experience and especially the view will be captured more beautifully.

Talk to the person at the reception when you arrive for your jump.

Can I take my own camera on a solo skydive?

For safety reasons, the rules of the Danish Transport Authority require that you have completed a minimum of 150 solo skydives before you are allowed to bring a camera on your own skydive.

Therefore, it is unfortunately not allowed to bring your own camera on your first solo skydive.

In which language will the skydiving course take place?

The skydiving licence itself is international, and our instructor team consists of both Danish and international instructors. Therefore, the majority of the training will be conducted in English.

If you are not comfortable following the training in English, please contact us in advance so we can find an appropriate solution.

Can I take a solo skydiving course with a friend and jump at the same time?

It is completely natural to want to take a solo skydiving course together with a friend, and we always do our best to plan students so that you can be on the same team and get on the plane together when possible.

However, with solo skydiving, there are many factors at play – including instructor capacity, weather conditions, safety procedures, and student level. Therefore, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that you and your friends can jump at exactly the same time.

If you are on the same flight, you will not jump out at the same time, and you will also not be close to each other during the actual skydiving. For safety reasons, solo students jump individually with temporal and horizontal separation between jumps.

Can I bring friends and family when I do my first solo skydive?

Your friends and family are of course very welcome to come and watch you skydive! However, they cannot participate in the theory course unless they sign up themselves. Therefore, they can only visit you on the day you are jumping.

While they wait, they can enjoy a cold soft drink or a delicious bite to eat in our café, and you will land only a few metres away from them, so they can follow along the whole way.

Please be aware that we cannot guarantee exactly when you will jump. Therefore, there may be waiting times, and sometimes it can even happen that one may have to wait all day before getting up in the air.

Is there catering and food during a skydiving course?

Yes, there are good options for food and drinks during your skydiving course. On the dropzone in Herning, we have a cozy café where it is always possible to buy drinks, snacks, and light meals.

During the theory course, there will be the opportunity to buy dinner, and on jump day you can purchase breakfast – both at reasonable prices. On weekends and during larger events, there is usually kitchen staff on site, and here you can order from the large menu.

On regular opening days, it is still possible to buy food and drinks from our small menu, so you can easily keep your energy levels up throughout your skydiving course.

Does the weather affect my first skydive?

Yes, the weather has a significant impact on your first skydive. As a first-time student, there are extra high demands for weather conditions, as safety is always our top priority.

In order to complete your first skydive, it requires extraordinarily good weather conditions, including stable wind conditions, good visibility, and safe landing conditions. Therefore, you may experience waiting times, and in some cases, the jump may be delayed or cancelled if the weather does not meet the safety requirements.

As a rule of thumb, we do not carry out solo jumps for students if the wind exceeds 7 m/s, or if other weather-related conditions are deemed unsuitable.

How should I dress for my first solo skydive?

For your first skydive, we recommend that you arrive in practical and comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement. The clothing should provide you with full freedom of movement and be suitable for physical activity.

You should wear closed shoes with laces that fit well on your foot. For safety reasons, sandals, slip-ons, boots, heeled shoes, or loose-fitting footwear are not allowed.

As the temperature drops the higher we go, we recommend dressing in layers. It is better to have several thin layers than one heavy layer. A good rule of thumb is to wear one extra layer compared to what you would normally wear outdoors in the current weather.

We will, of course, provide all necessary jumping equipment, including:

  • Jump suit
  • Helmet
  • Gloves

Therefore, you do not need to bring any special equipment yourself.

Can I skydive with glasses or contact lenses?

Yes, you can definitely complete a skydive with contact lenses or glasses. However, glasses should not be too large and must fit securely so they can be worn comfortably during the jump and with the helmet.

How do I reschedule my first solo skydive if it gets postponed?

Your first solo skydive may be postponed or moved, as a skydive depends on several factors – including the weather, aircraft availability, and equipment. We fully understand that you would like to jump at a specific time, but safety always comes first.

During a solo skydive, you do not have a fixed jump time. Instead, we are in ongoing dialogue with you about when you can show up, and we always do our best to get you in the air as quickly as possible when conditions allow.

We recommend that you:

These channels provide the best overview if your first skydive is postponed.

What happens if there is a long time from theory to jump?

If more than one month passes from your theory course to the actual jump day, parts of the theory will be briefly refreshed on the jump day. Therefore, you should expect a bit of extra preparation time before you go up.

If more than 12 months have passed from your course to the day you are supposed to jump, it is a requirement that you complete a refresher course, which costs 500 DKK.

What insurance do I need to participate in a skydiving course?

To participate in a skydiving course, it is a requirement that you have a valid accident insurance covering skydiving. Regular travel or leisure insurance typically only covers the first jump, as skydiving is usually only considered a hobby after you have completed several jumps.

We therefore recommend that you contact your insurance company before starting your course and ensure that your insurance explicitly covers extreme sports or skydives.

It is your own responsibility to have the necessary insurance coverage in place before you begin the course.

How do I use my gift card to book a skydiving course?

A gift card from Dropzone Denmark is valid for 30 months (2.5 years) from the date of issue. If you book with a gift card from us, you must use the code on the gift card when booking. When booking, you click on a button that says "I have a gift card" where you then enter the code you find on your gift card. Then click "continue" and your gift card should now be redeemed.
